A New Year, A New Start

Greetings, to all the blog readers out there in blog land. A new year brings new cross stitch starts, right? Here is the cross-stitch I am currently working on, it is another Prairie Schooler design. I like it because it is simple and fast. I have several patterns kitted up and put together for the new year.

I don't actually have any resolutions for the new year other than I am going to try and do what I enjoy and take care of myself. I have found that I have been in the middle of a lot of drama this past year, friend wise. Most of it deals with their kids and my kid and I am frankly sick of it all. Funny thing about all of this is that our kids are not even friends, but it seems we just keep getting drug into stuff. So I have decided that I am going to do the things I enjoy and be me. I teach middle school all day and I do not really have time for it with my friends. She said, he said types of situations are starting to really get in my way and I have to find some peace for myself.

We had a wonderful Christmas at our house. I think everyone went out their way to find thoughtful gifts for one another and everyone was happy. Our Christmas day plans were to have my mom and Dan's dad for lunch. However, at the last minute Dan's sister and two boys came to town, and his brother and his family weren't leaving until after lunch, so our dinner crowd was about double the size we planned on, but I think everyone had a great time. Lots of food, visiting and pictures. That is what the holidays are about right?

I have embarked into another hobby and although I am enjoying it quite a bit, I am not as proficient at it as I would like to be. It is quilting. The first quilt took much ripping out, but in the end I felt that it turned out very cute, even though it was just a simple nine patch quilt. It is at the quilter's now being quilted. I have another one started, but I am taking this one slowly, so that I will not repeat the mistakes on the first quilt. Any way that is the hope.

We are home today because the boy is not feeling well. I really needed a mental health day myself. So we have been hanging out- watching television, reading and whatnot. I can't believe I am actually enjoying these books I am reading, but I do like them--The Brides of Amish Country series. They are so unlike most of the books I read. I am either reading nonfiction, something about teaching, or reading a book to see if it is fit for my students to read.
